To increase security and improve visibility for your homes and businesses, consider upgrading your outdoor lighting. We have experience with low voltage lighting, and “line voltage” lighting. Broadly speaking, the cost of outdoor lighting is dependent on a few factors. Let us help design a project for your space.
Quality of Light Fixtures
Light fixtures for low voltage and line voltage applications can range from $20 – $500 or more per fixture. For sidewalks, placing a path light every 10-15 feet is typical.
Voltage
Landscape lights are available as low voltage or line voltage electrical supply. Low voltage is cheaper to install because wires can be installed closer to the surface than with line voltage. For line voltage, wires are either being deeply trenched with underground feeder or UF cable, or in conduit (shallower trench). Labor costs to trench for UF cable or conduit, and install conduit are significant. Importantly, conduit has the benefit of not being easily damaged by landscaping and other activities that may occur near outdoor lighting.
Area being Lit
The size of the area you need to light will dictate how many fixtures you will need to illuminate adequately.
Type of Lights
For example, if small path lights illuminate a 40-foot sidewalk, multiple fixtures will be needed, versus a large pole light or lamp post that may light the entire area with a single fixture. You may also want to consider uplighting to illuminate the exterior of your home or certain plants or trees in your landscaping.
Existing Outdoor Electric
Low voltage lights use a transformer that plugs into an outdoor electrical outlet. So, if you are planning to use low voltage lights and already have an outlet in a convenient location, this can provide some cost savings. If you do not have electric available outside, that would need to be added.
For line voltage lights, no outdoor electrical outlet is needed. Nevertheless, electrical service does need to be connected from your electrical panel to the area outside of the home where the lighting project is located.
Home Automation
We can install outdoor lighting controlled by everyday switches or provide upgrades to home automation. Imagine coming home in the evening to find your outdoor lights are already on so you can enter your home safely. Perhaps you’d like to control your lights from the second story just in case you hear a noise in the night; we can provide a remote to control the lights from anywhere in your home. The possibilities of home automation are infinite; tell us how you wish your home would function and we will make it happen.
